Full-arch implants
Full-arch implants replace every tooth in a jaw with a bridge held by four to six implants. This page sets out the choices, how many implants, which materials, fixed or removable, and when the teeth go in.

Every tooth in one jaw
A full-arch bridge replaces all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw at once. Instead of an implant for each tooth, four to six implants are placed along the arch and one bridge is fixed across them. The bridge carries the teeth and, where bone has shrunk, some pink material that replaces the lost gum, so the teeth look the right length.
This page is about the decisions that shape it. Smile in a Day describes the version where the implants and a fixed temporary set go in on the same day.
The choices
Number of implants. Four, angled at the back, suit many lower jaws. Six give more support, and are common in the upper jaw.
Fixed or removable. A fixed bridge is screwed to the implants and stays in. A removable overdenture clips on and comes out for cleaning.
Materials. The final bridge can be metal-ceramic, acrylic teeth on a titanium bar, or zirconia. The Standard and Premium tiers below describe what each includes.
Timing. When the implants are firm on the day, temporary teeth can be fixed at once. Otherwise they are fitted after healing.
Living with it
A full-arch bridge is cleaned in the mouth, not in a glass. Daily cleaning underneath, and reviews that include professional cleaning, are what keep the gums and the implants healthy for the long term.
It may suit you if
- You are missing most or all of the teeth in a jaw
- Your remaining teeth are too damaged to keep
- A removable denture rubs, moves or limits what you eat
- You want teeth that stay in, rather than a plate you take out
Suitability is confirmed at your examination, never from a web page.
If you would rather wait
You can stay with a denture or a partial plate while you weigh the options. The trade-off is that the jawbone keeps shrinking where teeth are missing, so the longer the wait, the more likely grafting becomes. A scan now shows where you stand, and the plan keeps.
Step by step
What happens at each stage, and roughly how long it takes. Your own timings are set out in your written plan.
Step 1: Consultation and 3D scan
The scan shows the height, width and quality of the bone across the whole arch, and where the nerves and sinuses lie.
Step 2: Choosing the design
Together we decide the number of implants, whether the bridge is fixed or removable, and the material of the final teeth.
More implants spread the load; fewer reduce the cost and surgery. The scan, your bite and your budget settle the balance.
Step 3: Placing the implants
The implants are placed under local anaesthesia. In the Premium tier, a surgical guide made from your scan positions each one as planned.
Step 4: Temporary teeth
When the implants are firm enough on the day, a fixed temporary bridge goes in straight away. Otherwise a temporary denture is worn while they heal.
Step 5: The final bridge
Once the implants have bonded and the gums have settled, the final bridge is made and fitted.
What each tier includes
The same careful planning in both. Premium adds digital scans, a surgical guide and custom-milled parts.

Included
- The consultation, 3D scan review and written plan
- The implants and their connectors
- Temporary teeth while you heal
- The final bridge
Sometimes needed, at extra cost
- Removing any remaining teeth in the arch
- Bone grafting or a sinus lift, where the bone is short
- The second arch, if both jaws are treated
- A night guard, if you grind your teeth
Anything extra is explained, with its cost, before it is done.
Risks and recovery
Every treatment carries some risk. These are the ones to know about, and what is normal while you heal.
- Swelling and tenderness for a few days after the implants are placed are normal.
- An implant can fail to bond. Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes raise the risk; a failed implant is replaced after healing.
- The screws that hold a fixed bridge can loosen over the years and are simply re-tightened at a review.
- Ceramic on the final bridge can chip, especially if you grind. A night guard protects it.
- Food collects under a full-arch bridge. Cleaning under it every day, and professional cleaning at reviews, prevent gum inflammation around the implants.

Ask on WhatsAppFour implants or six?
Four is enough for many lower jaws with good bone. Six is common in the upper jaw, where bone is softer, or when one bridge must carry heavy biting forces. The scan decides it.
What is the final bridge made of?
Options include metal-ceramic, a titanium bar with teeth fixed over it, and zirconia, which is strong and tooth-coloured right through. Each differs in look, weight and cost, and the tier you choose shapes the choice.
Fixed or removable?
A fixed bridge stays in and is only removed by the dentist. A removable implant denture clips onto fewer implants and comes out for cleaning. Fixed feels more like natural teeth; removable costs less.
How do I clean a full-arch bridge?
Brush it like teeth, and clean underneath every day with a water flosser, interdental brushes or special floss. Reviews include professional cleaning, sometimes with the bridge taken off.
Is the upper jaw different from the lower?
Usually. Upper bone is softer and the sinuses sit above the back teeth, so the upper jaw more often needs extra implants or a sinus lift.
Related treatments
Smile in a Day
Smile in a Day replaces a whole arch of failing or missing teeth with fixed teeth on four to six implants. The implants and a fixed temporary set go in on the same day; the final teeth follow once the gums have settled.
Implant dentures
Implant dentures are removable dentures that click onto two to four implants, so they stay put when you eat and speak. You take them out to clean them and at night.
Full mouth rehabilitation
Full mouth rehabilitation rebuilds the teeth of both jaws together, usually with a mix of crowns, root canals, implants and bite correction, planned as one sequence so the bite works as a whole.
