Smile makeover

A smile makeover brings several treatments, such as whitening, aligners, veneers, crowns or implants, into one plan, in an order where each step sets up the next.

One plan, not a list of treatments

A smile makeover is not a single procedure. It is a plan that brings together whatever your smile needs, in the right order. Whitening before veneers, so the veneers match. Straightening before crowns, so less tooth is cut. Gum treatment before anything else, because nothing lasts on unhealthy gums.

Getting the order right is most of the work. It decides how much natural tooth is kept, how long the result lasts, and what it costs.

What it can include

Depending on what you want to change: whitening for colour; aligners or braces to close gaps and straighten; ceramic veneers for shape and size; crowns for broken or heavily filled teeth; and implants where teeth are missing.

Seeing it first

Every makeover here starts from a digital smile design: the planned result drawn on photographs of your face, then tried in your mouth as a temporary mock-up. Changes cost little at that stage, and a great deal later, so the design stage takes as long as it needs.

It may suit you if

  • You would like to change more than one thing, such as colour, gaps and worn edges
  • Old crowns and fillings no longer match each other
  • Teeth are missing as well as discoloured or uneven
  • You want the whole smile considered, rather than one tooth at a time

Suitability is confirmed at your examination, never from a web page.

If you would rather wait

A makeover does not have to happen at once. Provided the order makes sense, it can be spread over months or years as time and budget allow. Health problems such as decay or gum disease are treated first either way.

Step by step

What happens at each stage, and roughly how long it takes. Your own timings are set out in your written plan.

  1. Step 1: Listening

We start with what bothers you, what you want to keep, and any photographs of smiles you like or of your own teeth from years ago.

  2. Step 2: Health check and records

An examination, X-rays, photographs and scans. Decay, gum disease and bite problems are noted, because they are treated before anything cosmetic.

  3. Step 3: Design and preview

The changes are planned with digital smile design and shown as a preview in your mouth.

The preview is where changing your mind costs least. Ask for every adjustment you want here.

  4. Step 4: A staged plan

The plan puts the treatments in order, usually health first, then position, then colour, then shape, with the visits and cost range for each stage.

  5. Step 5: Treatment, stage by stage

    As planned

Each stage is completed and checked before the next begins. You can pause between stages.

  6. Step 6: Maintenance

Check-ups and cleaning keep the result, with a night guard if you grind your teeth.

What the cost covers

Included

  • The assessment, records and design
  • A written, staged plan with a cost range for each stage

Sometimes needed, at extra cost

  • Each treatment in the plan, priced in the plan
  • A night guard, if you grind

Anything extra is explained, with its cost, before it is done.

Risks and recovery

Every treatment carries some risk. These are the ones to know about, and what is normal while you heal.

  • The risks are those of each treatment in the plan, which your plan lists stage by stage.
  • Some steps, such as veneers and crowns, cannot be undone.
  • Longer plans need commitment to finish. Stopping halfway can leave teeth mismatched, so stages are planned to be complete in themselves.

Ask on WhatsApp
How long does a smile makeover take?

From a few weeks, for whitening and a few veneers, to many months when straightening or implants are part of it. Your plan gives the timeline for each stage.

Can I spread the cost?

You can spread the treatment. The plan is staged so each part stands on its own, and you choose when to start the next.

Will it look fake?

It should not. The design follows your face, and shade and shape are chosen to look like teeth, not like a row of identical tiles. You see the preview first.

Where do I start?

With a consultation and the records. From there you see the design and the staged plan, and decide.

  • Digital smile design

Digital smile design plans a cosmetic change on photographs, video and scans of your own face and teeth, then lets you try a preview in your mouth before any tooth is touched.

  • Ceramic veneers

A ceramic veneer is a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth to change its colour, shape or size. It usually needs a small amount of enamel removed, so it is a long-term decision.

  • Clear aligners

Clear aligners are a series of thin, removable plastic trays, each shaped to move your teeth a little further. You change to the next set every week or two until the teeth reach their planned position.
