Teeth in an hour

Teeth in an hour refers to the surgical visit, not the whole treatment. The implants are planned on your 3D scan beforehand and placed through a custom guide, so the visit itself is short. Planning comes first; final teeth come later.

What the hour is, and what it is not

The name sounds like a promise of finished teeth in sixty minutes. That is not what it means here. It describes the surgical visit: because every implant has been planned in advance on your 3D scan, the placement itself is quick. The work before it, scans and planning, and the healing after it, take as long as they need.

Planning on screen first

A CBCT scan, taken in-house, shows the jawbone in three dimensions, with the nerves and sinuses. It is combined with a scan of your teeth, and each implant is positioned on screen, at the depth and angle the bone allows, under the tooth it will carry. From that plan, a surgical guide is made: a close-fitting template with sleeves that steer the drill.

On the day

With the guide in place, each implant goes exactly where it was planned. When the bone is as the scan showed, the implants can often be placed through small openings, without opening the gum widely, which usually means less swelling afterwards. If the bone differs on the day, the dentist works the conventional way instead. Guided placement is part of the Premium tier.

It may suit you if

  • One, several or all teeth need replacing, and the bone is adequate
  • You would like a shorter surgical visit
  • You are anxious about long procedures
  • Teeth have to be removed and you want implants planned in the same course

Suitability is confirmed at your examination, never from a web page.

If you would rather wait

Nothing about guided placement needs to happen quickly. If you are weighing it up, the scan and the plan can be done first, and the placement booked when you are ready. Where a tooth has just been removed, though, placing the implant within the first months helps keep the bone.

Step by step

What happens at each stage, and roughly how long it takes. Your own timings are set out in your written plan.

  1. Step 1: Evaluation

An examination, X-rays and photographs, with a full medical history, the medicines you take, and whether you grind your teeth.

  2. Step 2: 3D scan and virtual planning

A CBCT scan, taken in-house, is combined with a scan of your teeth. Each implant is placed on screen first, clear of nerves and sinuses, and a surgical guide is made to that plan.

You see the plan on screen, implant by implant, before agreeing to it.

  3. Step 3: The placement

    About an hour

The guide fits over your teeth or gums and steers each implant to its planned position and angle. When the bone allows, the implants go in through small openings, without opening the gum widely.

  4. Step 4: Temporary teeth

If the implants are firm enough, temporary teeth are attached the same day. If not, they are fitted once the implants have settled.

  5. Step 5: Healing and final teeth

    3 to 6 months

The implants bond with the bone, then the final crowns or bridge are made and fitted.

Anything extra is explained, with its cost, before it is done.

Risks and recovery

Every treatment carries some risk. These are the ones to know about, and what is normal while you heal.

  • If the bone found on the day differs from the scan, the dentist may switch to a conventional approach, opening the gum to see directly. You are told this is possible beforehand.
  • Temporary teeth cannot always be fitted on the day. That depends on how firm the implants are once placed.
  • Swelling and discomfort are usually milder than with open surgery, but some is normal for a few days.
  • An implant can fail to bond with the bone, more often in smokers. It is replaced after healing.

Ask on WhatsApp
Is everything done in an hour?

No. The hour is the guided placement. Before it come the evaluation, the scan and the planning; after it, months of healing before the final teeth. The name describes the visit that patients usually worry about most.

Why does a guide mean a shorter visit?

The decisions about position, depth and angle are made in advance on the scan. On the day, the guide carries them out, so less time is spent working things out in the mouth.

Can it be used for a single tooth?

Yes. Guided placement works for one implant, several, or a full arch.

Is guided placement in both tiers?

It is part of the Premium tier, which includes digital planning and a surgical guide. The tier switch below shows what each tier includes.

  • Smile in a Day

Smile in a Day replaces a whole arch of failing or missing teeth with fixed teeth on four to six implants. The implants and a fixed temporary set go in on the same day; the final teeth follow once the gums have settled.

  • Full-arch implants

Full-arch implants replace every tooth in a jaw with a bridge held by four to six implants. This page sets out the choices, how many implants, which materials, fixed or removable, and when the teeth go in.

  • Bone grafting and sinus lift

When the jawbone is too thin or too short to hold an implant, a bone graft builds it up. In the upper back jaw, a sinus lift raises the floor of the sinus to make room for new bone.
